How I spent my Aidil Fitri

This post is looooong overdue...

I've been really busy lately so sorry for taking such a long time to update this blog of mine.

Syawal just ended a few days ago. The end of Syawal means the end of the Eid month. This year, my Syawal was a bit hectic than usual (as if it wasn't before this :p).

This year, we went back to Tok Mama's hometown in Rembau, Negeri Sembilan on the eve of Eid. I woke up early that Eid morning and put on my new baju kurung Mommy tailored specially for Eid. It was also Idzhar's 1st Eid-ul-Fitr so he had on his 1st ever baju melayu.

Idzhar and I with Tok Abah and Tok Mama

Idzhar was really happy that morning. It was as if he knew that it was Eid. He was smiling non-stop, especially when we were receiving money packets from everyone including Tok Abah.

I also received a money packet from Dadda and Mommy.

Money packet from Nek Wan :)

In the afternoon, we went to visit our relatives homes around the kampung.

The next morning, the 2nd day of Eid, we travelled over to Muar, Johor to visit Adida. Johor is also Tok Abah's hometown and his mother, the late Nyang O was from Muar too. Mommy was about 5 months pregnant with me when she passed away.

From Muar, we drove back to Rembau, took our things and came back straight to Subang Permai, Tok Abah's house.

On the 3rd day of Eid, we had a special occasion. In the Malay tradition, before a couple gets engaged to be married, we normally have a majlis merisik. This is when the family of the groom-to-be pays a visit to the bride-to-be's family to ask for permission from the head of the family for their children to be joined together in matrimony. It is not a big ceremony, just a few family members from the boy's family visiting the girl's family to get to know each other.

The spokesperson is normally not the father, but the uncle or other male relative.

Discussion on the engagement ceremony

After the discussion was over, we then proceeded to the dining hall. Since it was Eid, we took the opportunity to 'beraya' as well.

So you must be wondering who I was talking about all the while, right? Yes, it's Pak Su! He's getting engaged to Aunty Shakynaz on the 25th of December and to be married next year, InsyaAllah. Notice how I was absent in all the photos. I was actually there when the event took place at Aunty Kynaz's house but I was suddenly down with fever and just sat with Dadda while they were discussing.

Can you see me sitting on Dadda?

Yes, I had quite a high fever the whole night after that event and when I woke up the next morning, I found marks on my body! Mommy and Dadda immediately took me to the clinic and it was confirmed that I had chicken pox! So, there goes the rest of my Eid... sigh...

That very Saturday, Cik Ah got engaged to Uncle Hafiz in PJ. As you might have guessed, I wasn't at the ceremony. So, Mommy and Dadda took pictures of her for me.

Cik Ah looked pretty with her hand bouquet :)

Thankfully, it only took slightly more than a week for me to recover and I recovered in time for our open house in Subang Permai.

A lot of Tok Abah's friends, Tok Mama's friends, Mommy's friends and even Dadda's  friends came that day. By the end of the day, I was exhausted. Mama Lyana and Papa Dam slept over at Subang Permai that night so it was fun nevertheless!

Apart from the chicken pox, my Eid was a blast! I hope you had an awesome Eid too. Will be updating more soon.

Gotta catch up on all the overdue posts...

Eid Mubarrak

Ramadhan is almost over. Only 2 more days left to fast and then everyone will be celebrating the arrival of Syawal.

As for me, my greatest achievement this Ramadhan was to be able to fast for 5 days. Although it felt like the longest 5 days ever but I managed to do it. I wanted to continue for another day or two but Mommy thought 5 days were good enough. Mommy and Dadda are very proud at the fact that I managed to even do it. Of course, everytime I fasted, I kept asking Mommy and Dadda if it was time to eat already. I'd probably asked them that question every half an hour.

Breaking fast for the first time! Donuts & Ribena!

Anyway, during Ramadhan, I took part in a performance with my school friends from CIC. Last year, I also performed with them at Ikano Power Centre but this year we performed at Paradigm Mall. This time though, Papa, Mama, Che Ah, Cuna and Aunty Kinaz came to watch me perform apart from Mommy, Dadda, Tok Abah, Tok Mama and Pak Su. (Bibik & Adik too!)

My performance last year at Ikano Power Centre, Mutiara Damansara.

Here's the full video of our performance;

Fasting is not an excuse for us to not work or continue with our daily routine. In fact, we are encouraged to do more during Ramadhan and improve on our Ibadah at the same time. I hope next year I'll be able to do better.

As for now, I'll enjoy celebrating Eid with my friends and family!

Eid Mubarak everyone!
Here's our Raya e-card especially for you.. :)

Happy Fasting Everyone!

I just want to wish Ramadhan Al Mubarak to everyone who is observing this holy month. I will try my best to fast this year. I've been learning about this holy month for a couple of years at school now so this year, I'm going to try to actually fast.

Wish me luck! :)

2 Weddings and A Waterfall

One of Dadda's cousins got married to someone from Malacca, the historic state, situated between Negeri Sembilan and Johor recently. It's about 2 hours drive away from KL so we decided to attend the ceremony.

I didn't go to school that Friday, 15th June. Mommy went to work for a while and at around 3pm, after Dadda came back from Friday prayers we headed to Malacca, just the 4 of us - Dadda, Mommy, Idzhar and I.

Papa, Mama and Che Ah were already there so we went straight to the bungalow Papa had rented for the night. After Maghrib prayers, we got ready to go to the bride's house for the Solemnisation ceremony.

The day after was the big celebration day where the actual reception was held at the same place. This time, everybody from the PJ clan was there to celebrate.

After the wedding, we thought of going around the Malacca town for some sightseeing but everyone else was already tired. They then went straight back to KL so Dadda and Mommy decided to drive a little further down to Adida's home in Muar, Johor.

Once we arrived at Adida's, Dadda rested for a wee while and we then drove to the park by the sea where Idzhar and I played for a while at the playground. Adida's cousin, Aunty Ina and her kids joined us too.

Idzhar enjoying himself. He loved the slides.

With Aunty Ina and her family.

Mommy decided to join me on the swings.

And then it was time to leave...

We then called Daddy, Adida's father to join us for dinner, along with Adida's aunt and her kids. We had a popular dish called Asam Pedas. I also loved the fried fish.

The next morning, Mommy woke Idzhar and I up really early. She told us that we were going to go for a picnic. So, I woke up and got ready excitedly. It took us about 45 minutes to reach the place Mommy mentioned. It's called Hutan Lipur Gunung Ledang. We brought along some food with us and found a spot to spread our mat and relax.

After some light snack, into the water we went...

Idzhar enjoying his first dip in the river...

After that, we had Nasi Lemak Adida bought earlier before we headed back to Adida's home and then after packing, drove back to KL - but, of course not without making a pit stop at Nek Wan's house for dinner.

Oh, I almost forgot. Happy Father's Day Dadda, Tok Babah, Papa and Daddy! :)
Since we were away on Father's Day, we had our Father's day dinner with Tok Abah and Tok Mama the day after we came back.

Now on to the 2nd wedding the weekend after. This was a really hectic one.

It was the wedding of Aunty Alia, our next door neighbour in Subang Jaya. Mommy, Pak Su, Aunty Alia, her brother; Uncle Ashraf and sister; Aunty Ayu grew up together.

It started on Thursday night when Mommy and I went for the Bersiram ceremony at their home, next door to Tok Abah's house in Subang Jaya.

The next day, Mommy picked me up early from school to go straight to their solemnisation ceremony at Masjid Darul Ehsan, Subang Jaya; after the Friday prayers.

The day after, Saturday, 23rd June, the reception for the Bride's side of the family was held in Putrajaya. The theme was Siver/Grey, although I turned up in black with silver beadings because I've outgrown my silver Baju Kurung.

And on Sunday, the reception for the Groom's side was held at Dewan Gemilang, Kelana Jaya. This time, the theme for the guests was Gold/Brown while the bride and groom donned a traditional blue outfit.

I'm pretty sure I'll be attending more weddings soon so this doesn't end here. Will keep you updated in my next posts.

In the meantime, I will try and keep my next few posts short and simple, ok? hehe... :)

Make sure you read this too!
