The Passing of Nek Tok

'Truly we belong to Allah, and truly to Allah shall we return'

On the morning of July 28th, 2009, at approximately 5.51am, Nek Tok, Allahyarham Haji Kassim bin Sifat, Tok Mama's father passed away in his sleep after being in the hospital for a little more than a month. We were asleep when Tok Mama called Dadda to inform us of the news.

Mommy and Dadda immediately got ready, woke me up and bathed me and headed back to Tok Mama's hometown where Nek Tok's body was to be laid to rest that afternoon itself. Many people who knew Nek Tok from all over came to pay their last respects. Nek Tok was buried after the Zohor prayers, at around 2pm. Everything, alhamdulillah, went smoothly.

We held 'tahlil' for 3 days in a row where we recited quran verses and duas. Neighbours and family members attended the 'tahlil' and many expressed their condolences especially to Nek Wan, Tok Mama's mother.

We were forbidden to mourn for more than three days for a dead person, except for a husband, for whom a wife should mourn for four months and ten days (while in the mourning period) we were not allowed to put kohl in our eyes, nor perfume ourselves, nor wear dyed clothes, except a garment of 'Asb (special clothes made in Yemen). But it was permissible for us that when one of us became clean from her menses and took a bath, she could use a piece of a certain kind of incense. And it was forbidden for us to follow funeral processions.

Hadith - Bukhari 7:254, Narrated Um 'Atiyya

I'm thankful that Nek Tok had the chance to see me. I probably won't have memories of Nek Tok with me when I'm older but at least Mommy, Dadda, Tok Mama and the rest of the family do.

Possibily my final picture with Nek Tok during Mak Lang Nur's wedding

Plus, there are photos to remind me of him.

May his soul rest in peace. Al-Fatihah.

Mam-mam...

Eating, an act done by all kinds of beings in order to give nourishments to the body to keep on living. An act which to me is known as 'Mam-mam'. Some people eat to live while some live to eat. Either way, it's a well established fact that food is something that no one can live without.

Getting ready for my favourite activity!!

In my case, 'Mam-mam' is an activity I look forward to every single day. If I were to answer questions about myself, 'mam-mam' will be the answer to 'what's my favourite pastime' question. I hear mothers telling Mommy how their children have trouble eating and I wonder why. Since Mommy introduced me to solids, I can't remember anything in particular that I didn't like. I opened my mouth to any kinds of food Mommy fed and I will go to anyone while their eating and see if I can get a taste of their food.

My 1st taste of solid food, 3 months old!

Enjoying the solid taste of porridge specially made by Mommy - 6 months old

Yeaaayyyy, pancakes & mash potatoes, another one of my favourites!!

But don't get me wrong. Although I eat everything, of course, there are favourites. Food that I love most and the ones I like less. Carbo-wise, I eat anything from bread, rice to pasta and noodles but between all those, I'd prefer pasta and noodles. I also favour sweets less and that's why Mommy seldom gave me cookies, cakes and muffins. My favourite fruits so far, are strawberries and watermelons. Although Mommy prefer cherries to strawberries, I have yet to try cherries. Maybe someday I'll try them and see which ones I like most. Apart from that, there are no vegetables that I dislike and I eat fish, beef and chicken.

My 1st taste of strawberry... Tangy!

Hmmmm, Big Fish & Chips!! Loving it...!

So, there will be no problem in eating when taking me out as I can just about eat anything and anywhere and taking me to food buffets would be just lovely. I'll try and make it worth every penny spent.

And no doubt about it, there are countless numbers of photos of me doing just my thing - 'Mam-mam'.

Anniversary Holiday

"A wedding anniversary is a celebration of love, trust, partnership, tolerance and tenacity. The order varies for any given year" ~ Paul Sweeney

More than a week ago, on the 7th of July, Mommy and Dadda celebrated their 2nd anniversary. It was on a Tuesday so they didn't have any special celebrations, plus, Nek Tok, who is Tok Momma's father was in the hospital. But that weekend, on the 11th, we went out of town to the beach. Yes, I said WE. This time I got to go along on a holiday at the beach.

We arrived at a hotel called Avillion in Port Dickson on Saturday afternoon. We had a water-chalet type of room which was on stilts and we had the sea below us. When I sleep, I could hear the sound of waves underneath. The hotel had lots of interesting things for us to do. They have a room filled with activities for children and besides playing at the playground, we swam at the pool. There were 3 pools; one of the pools had a slide which I enjoyed very much!

Look at me solo-sliding! Wooohoooo!

I was too small to go for the water sports activities at the beach so we spent most of our time at the pool.
We also had a chance to feed animals like rabbits, peacocks and hamsters at the pet farm.

There were a lot of other stuff that we didn't get to do because we had so little time. Maybe next time we can go for the nature walk, karaoke and the water sports activities such as jet ski, banana boat and others (maybe when I'm older). I can't wait for our next holiday trip!

"No man needs a vacation so much as the man who has just had one" ~ Elbert Hubbard

And with that, I leave you with photos from our vacation.

Farewell MJ...

1 morning 2 weeks ago, Mommy and Dadda woke up to a sad news. Somebody named Michael Jackson had passed away while we were asleep. Apparently, Mommy said he is from a place very far away called USA and he was a famous singer. I can't imagine how far but from that day on most people I met mentioned something about this person. Mommy spent most of her time in front of the TV waiting for updated news about this person.

Since I'm always with Mommy, I ended up watching this person on TV too. I finally knew why everybody went gaga over this person. Even I enjoyed listening to his music and watching him dance in his video clips, so it's no wonder that all the adults were devastated when he died.

Mommy also said that she's sorry that I won't get to experience the greatness of the King of Pop first-hand. Looking at the way people around the world celebrates the life of MJ, I'm sure that his legacy will live on for years to come!

So, finally, on the 7th of July, 2009, on Mommy and Dadda's 2nd wedding anninversary, MJ was buried. The whole world waited and finally tuned in to watch the memorial service live on TV. I guess you can say that the whole world united to celebrate the life of the irreplaceable King of Pop!

Here's a video of me paying tribute to the legend, the modern-day Mozart, the King of Pop, Michael Jackson...
may he rest in peace.

Dadda's 30th birthday

Dadda turned 30 recently on the 2nd of July. Dadda's big day started at 12 midnight, when Mommy and I kissed and wished him 'Happy Birthday' and gave him a card. Dadda said thank you to us and thought that that was it. Suddenly, Mommy pulled a wrapped gift from under the bed and presented it to Dadda. He was delighted to find out that it was a new phone Mommy bought to replace his broken phone!

Happy 30th Birthday Dadda! Nice Samsung phone thanks to Mommy!

The next day, we went to have lunch with Dadda. I had pasta and potato salad. Mommy and Dadda had pasta too. After the meal we went to the bookstore and spent sometime there before heading home.

Hhhmmmm, dellliiccciooousss!

I'm happy to be 'mammam'-ing!

That night there was another celebration. This time it was with Tok Abah, Tok Mama, Pak Su, Aunty Huda and Mak Lel. There were shrimps, salmon, chicken, beef steak and lots of other food! I ate all the different types of food from everybody's plate! Yummy! They also ordered dessert and some people sang and wished 'Happy Birthday' to Dadda while Dadda 'boogied' on the chair! (he was asked to by those people, hehe..)

Haha! Woke up just in time for mammam time!

All in all, I think Dadda had a great birthday. I know I had a great time on Dadda's birthday (from eating!).
I'm waiting for more 'mammam' sessions... yum...

Happy Father's Day...

Sunday, 21st June. Happy Father's Day Dadda, Tok Abah, Papa and all the fathers out there! This year will be Dadda's 2nd year celebrating Father's Day thanks to moi...

My Dadda is the Best!

Tok Abah and I!

Papa and I!

Anyway, this will be a short one. Just wanted to tell everyone that the post about the MAS contest I posted a few weeks ago is over and sadly, I didn't win. They invited Mommy and Dadda to a dinner where they announced the winners, though. They went without me.

Dadda & Mommy went to dinner without me!

Apart from that, my life's been going on just as normal. I have a feeling that Mommy and Dadda will be sending me to school soon, though I'm not sure when exactly. I'll tell you all about that when it happens, ok.

Meanwhile, life is good... Here's Mommy's favourite video specially for all the fathers.

Weddings

So, I know that I haven't been writing for quite a while now. I've been quite busy actually, err... with attending weddings.

Anyway, as some of you might already know, Mommy, Dadda, Aunty Huda and Mak Lel went to Bali a few weeks ago (I was told that Bali is somewhere in a place called Indonesia. As if I know where that is!). As usual, I was left behind with Tok Abah, Tok Mama and Pak Su Ami. The weekend they went to Bali the 4 of us took a long trip to a place called Triang. It took us forever to get there! We went there to attend a wedding of Tok Abah's and Tok Mama's friend. Needless to say, I was well behaved and quite entertaining to Tok Abah, Tok Mama and Pak Su throughout the journey although I was sooo tired.

Mommy, Dadda, Aunty Huda and Mak Lel came back on Sunday, 31st May at around 10am. We picked them up at the airport and went straight to Malacca to attend another wedding. This time Mommy knew the groom and Tok Abah and Tok Mama knew the groom's parents. Apparently, they were neighbours from ages ago and Mommy and the groom grew up together. They met again when they worked together at ASTRO.

In Malacca, waiting for Tok Mama's friend at Kolej Yayasan Saad..

I didn't really feel tired during that journey to Malacca maybe because I was excited to see Mommy and Dadda back from Bali. Of course I missed them a lot but I tried not to show it too much. Anyway, we stopped by at Tok Mama's hometown in Rembau to see Nek Wan and Nek Tok on the way back from Malacca.

Hmmm, mam-mam! I love food.. eating with Mommy..

Our picture with the groom (Uncle Ayai) and his wife

On the 6th of June, Mommy, Dadda and I went to a wedding in Meru, Klang. It was not that far, about 45 minutes' drive from home. This time it was the wedding of Dadda's cousin, Uncle Mahmie and his fiancee, Aunty Zarina.

In my cute green dress, all ready for the convoy!

You see, in a Malay culture, there are always receptions at both the bride's side of the family and the groom's. Most of the time, though not always, the bride's side will hold the reception before the groom's side. Malay weddings always start with the religious ceremony, in this case, at a mosque.

At the mosque, hugging Papa!

Just me witnessing the akad nikah..

Look at all the 'hantaran'...

Playing with Cik Ah's camera, with Cuna, Mommy and Cekde looking..

After that we proceeded to the bride's house about 5 minutes' drive from the mosque where the reception was being held. I have to tell you that the food served was delicious!

A week after that, on the 13th, it was the groom's family's turn to hold a reception. I went to the groom's parents' house the night before the wedding to 'help' with the preparations. I helped quite a lot, actually, with the food, I mean. Anyway, the reception was held at a hall not far from the house. We met with a lot of relatives from Dadda's family who came from all over Malaysia just to attend the wedding.

Tok Mama, Tok Abah and Pak Su also tagged along with us!

All dressed in brilliant purple. Mama with her bling-bling dress! :)

My Subang family with the 'mempelai'.. I'm too busy looking at Auntie Zarina's flowers!

Enjoying some cooling moment near the fan with CuNa!

The MC for the day, AyahNgah -- Bujang Lapok (we're still waiting...)

Our small family with Uncle Mahmie & Auntie Zarina. Selamat Pengantin Baru!

So, those were more or less my account of the weddings I've attended for the past few weeks. Of course to me the best part of all the weddings are the Food! Glorious Food!

Not food, but flower. Yup, just me playing with the fresh orchids during the wedding reception.

Till we meet again...

Make sure you read this too!
